My dentures make me look old

My dentures make me feel old. They look old, even though I’ve only had them for about 18 months. I am tired of explaining what I want to my dentist. I couldn’t believe it when he put his hand on mind and told me to remember how lucky I am because some people can’t afford dentures so they have to go about life without any teeth at all. I am insulted. This is a dentist that I’ve seen since childhood. I think it’s time to move on. I know that I can’t afford dental implants, but there has to be something better than dentures that age me by at least 10 years. What do you suggest? Pat O. from Pennsylvania

Pat – It is not unusual to receive dentures and to be unsatisfied because they look like, as many people call them, “false teeth.” It is very unfortunate, but your experience is shared by many others.

Your dentist’s response likely means that he has done his best in providing you with dentures. But you have the option of getting your dentures from a cosmetic dentist.

A cosmetic dentist has the artistic talent to personalize your dentures and make them look like they belong to you—not to someone else. Nor will they look like a generic set of dentures. A cosmetic dentist will listen to your like and dislikes, and take into consideration your facial features, so that the dentures complement your smile.

Although you cannot afford dental implants, implant overdentures might be a consideration for you. Your dentures can be secured with as few as two implants. You won’t have to worry about them slipping around in your mouth or falling out.

The cosmetic dentist that you select will let you know your options for dentures that you will love.
